New Jersey is one of seven states where health clubs have been barred from reopening. “It’s a dire situation and they are desperate,” Andrew Alfano, chief executive of Retro Fitness, testified at the Senate hearing about the financial hardship of the five-month closure. “These are people who will never financially recover.”
